well I can give you some applications rather than advantages but I'm sure you can frame yourself the advantages from it...here they go...
1)Not considering python ruby is still considered a powerful scripting language used to write most of the commonly implemented hacking exploits.Search Kali linux database for more reference.
2) Ruby on Rails is nowadays quite famous in the world of web development. Both of us being web developers I'm sure you'll be knowing about it.If not Google it,you'll not be disappointed.
3) finally like all other languages you'll find it's use in vast areas from CGI Programming to Kernel level.
I guess a lot said about the language. :-)
