At the university we had to learn a lot of languages simultaneously. When we learnt loops for example, we had to learn how it can be done in C, C++, ADA, FORTRAN, ... and a lot of others. You got a great overview on the topics but you didn't learn a language too use well.

about 18yrs ago I locked myself in a room and learned hmtl so that I could create websites, took me about 2 days.

I learnt FORTRAN IV on IBM 360 main frame . Cards were the input. I got output after 3 to four hours depending on when they fed the job ( that is the cards)

First programming language was Fortran IV in 1977 in my Engineering course 'Computer methods in civil Engineering '. Punched cards were used as input in IBM 360 main frame.
