What is the difference between web server and web hosting?

I want to upload my website site on the web. Some said that i should use web hosting while some said i should webserver. What is the difference between both of them.

I believe the difference is:
webserver : a server you control from home and you own. but you need the bandwidth
webhosting: you put your website on someone else’s server and pay for that monthly
