The <strong> tag is used to separate the text from the rest of the content.

It can also be used in place of the <b> tag in making text bold.

Hello,I would add that every text that would be placed within that tag(opening and closing) will be interpreted as important by your browser,and the way the browser handle that is by making it bold. You could also use the <b>tag with the same rendering and <b> is the real bold here for the browser. (Same thing with <em> and <i>,both give italic text but <em> for the browser means important. )
