Do software like Ms word, notepad also use graphics api like opengl and directX

I am learning opengl from YouTube and wanna know that can I make apps and games both by opengl or apps use something different for graphics

Haven't checked ever since Windows 8.x. Until Windows 7 Notepad uses customised Windows API for GUI. I have no idea what is used for MS Office products, its UI had gone through a lot of changes, starting from MS Office 2013.
