What am I doing wrong in assigning this :root variable?

I attempted to assign a root class in my CSS to where all the section blocks in my blog are pink by default. The only thing I expect to change is the final section, "Contact Me" because that is the only one not assigned a background image. Welp, it still ain't working. I tried adding and deleting the semi colons at the end, but to no avail. What do?
