Why is java and C++ have almost the same syntax?

I read somewhere in the internet that java is based on C, or is every language almost have the same codes? i.e. int, String, operators, for, while, etc... Because java and C++ are the only languages I have read so far.

i think its because c++ is well known back in a day ? so java made it easier for people who want to use it because the similarity. not so sure though, there are some panel or interview with James Gosling around youtube if you want to hear from the man himself. there's a chance that he'll talk about this topic.
