My Float code didn't work

Hey Guys i tried running this code on my Virtual studio but it didn't float, but when i ran it on the code playground it worked perfectly. I then copied the exact code and pasted it on my Virtual Studio but it didn't float. Guys please help me. The Code is Below.

where did you write the CSS part in VS? and does image appear in VS?

I wrote it in a new css file and linked it to the html.
