BinaryEden After working with Visual Studio IDEs since 2002, I've been ruined to ever like Eclipse or NetBeans. IntelliJ is the only other IDE that is actually on par with or sometimes better than the VS products... for me anyway. Before anyone starts correcting me... yes, yes... I'm aware that we're talking about Java. I'm just commenting about the IDEs in this response.

Tibor Santa The title "Best Java IDEs" is a stretch with that list... especially with Dr Java included. 🤦‍♂️ That article should be renamed to: "All Java IDEs - Good or Bad / Active or Inactive" 😂🤣

Tibor Santa I didn't realize VS Code could build Java code. I'm partial to using IntelliJ and other Jetbrains IDEs myself. 🤓 At this point, I will probably make every effort to use Kotlin over Java if I ever need to work on a project requiring the JVM. 😉👌

BinaryEden I'm not sure what you meant by: "VS, I ever avoid microsoft" Did you mean to say: "VS, I never avoid microsoft" or "VS, I always avoid microsoft"

The most popular are IntelliJ Idea, Netbeans and Eclipse, but there are also other options. Most of these have mac version too. https://hackr.io/blog/best-java-ides

David Carroll I should have written a disclaimer that I haven't tried them all, so no satisfaction guarantee :) Anyway I have tried IntelliJ, its very good indeed, even too good for me because it has too much features :) I am not doing a lot of Java stuff for now so I am also on the lookout for a lightweight but reasonably capable option. I think I am giving a shot to VS Code because to me it has proven to be the perfect option for several other languages (c#, python, haskell).
