Are they still used

Based on what i learnt that div and span elements were in the old versions of html and now we have new ones like header,...
So why are they used in many tutorials on the internet ??and i even see them in webpages

They are not yet deprecated and still can be used in generic cases which don't fall into the categories of the new tags.
