Why doesn't Python replace Lua?

I'm new to Lua, but have some expirience in Python. Now I'm studying game development and see that Lua is used as a scripting language in many games. I can't see why we need Lua and can't use Python instead for this purposes? In my opinion Python sintax is more handy. They bot are written in see and similar in many ways, so why create one more language?
