Is Java really useful for IoT?

I have googled it and they say Java is one of the best for this purpose, but when I look for Raspberry Pi projects and stuff they bring on Python and C (in Arduino case). As Java is my first language I didn't really wanna go for Python now. Could anyone there help this out ?? Thx in advance! :)

Java runs on many millions of Android devices and will play a major part in IOT.

I am not familiar with Raspberry Pi but I know that it is possible to use Java. (Google search "Raspberry Pi Java") https://www.amazon.de/Raspberry-Pi-Java-Programming-Internet/dp/0071842012 At first it was only possible to use Python. I think that is the main reason why you find more python projects.
