If you've ever been on the road, more desirably in traffic jam, The width of the road would represent bandwidth. More traffic can be handled should you have a wider road. Similarly, more data can be transmitted within a time unit if you have a wide bandwidth (broadband). You also realize that you have to wait for the cars in front to move before you hit the gas. Even though the traffic lights turned green, you can't proceed immediately. Such delays can represent network latency. The closer you are to the traffic lights, the less delay you experience. Likewise, you get lower latency if the server is near to your location.
