Time to learn

How long did it take you to learn your first language so that you can make functional and complex programs with it? And nowadays, how long does it take you to learn a language in a functional way?

For C#, it took me 4months since it was self-taught. The others took arounf 1-3 months

I think that 70% of programmers nowadays learn in a self-taught way, first because of the fact that, outside of universities, there are not many satisfactory programming courses, and after that I believe that this is one of the subjects that most can be found free and educational material on the internet. No wonder most self-taught programmers are fighters for free content sharing hahah
