Do you have to use a ".php" file extension?

So I just finished the php course and want to use it in some of my projects but everytimw I watch tutorial they are using a file that looks like any html file but it has a ".php" file extension. Does ".html" not work for using php for something like submitting a form?

To tell the interpreter that you also use php code, you take the suffix ".php".
