I agree about them collecting data, although I feel like this statement could make users more aware of how many times they check the website in a day

I don't think. They might be gathering data and be processing to survey. Then publish the results.

It’s just gathering data so they can understand the amount of active users they have. I personally see no issue with it ^^

Strange question. I would probably use the website more if it had comparable functionality to the app. How infrequently I check it now should not be interpreted to mean they don't have enough traffic to warrant the continuation of ignoring building out the website. This poll would make a good personal feed post.
