w3schools seems to be conveying contradictory information. Here they say <!DOCTYPE> is not a tag https://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_doctype.asp but then they consistently include it in their HTML tag reference (not to mention the url also lists it as a tag). No wonder beginners are confused! :)
