Should i focus on Ruby on Rails or Php in 2018 and beyond?

Hello everyone, I am a php developer with expertise to in Laravel 5 and Codeigniter 3. I also have worked on JavaScript techs like nodejs express angular 4 and reactjs. I consider myself a backend developer though and I am pretty good at it(just my view :)) and PHP being my primary stack. Recently, I have learnt Ruby and currently I am learning Rails 5 which I am really liking. Everything seems similar to PHP frameworks apart from the syntax. However, I am confused whether I should focus on more advanced PHP stuffs such as ReactPHP and Swoole Php(used for async php) or should I switch over to Ruby on Rails. I am more concerned about job opportunity and career growth in 2018 and future. Note: I am also interested in projects related to internet of things and have used both PHP and Nodejs with Arduino. Thanks in advance.

This is one of the most debated questions among web programmers. Actually, every language has its own pros and cons. It totally depends on your requirement of website development. Here are some comparisons over the internet that might help you to come up with career decision. http://www.developersacademy.org/blog/php-or-ruby-on-rails-which-developing-career-you-should-pursue/ https://www.plesk.com/blog/various/ruby-rails-vs-php/ http://www.techshub.in/programing-language/php-vs-JUMP_LINK__&&__python__&&__JUMP_LINK-vs-ruby/

PHP is a scripting language, Ruby on Rails is a web development framework based on Ruby. I think that knowing both languages and their popular frameworks is the best way to go. Both languages and their frameworks are capable of accomplishing almost any task. Having experience in multiple languages and frameworks is definitely a big plus for your career. Hope this helps :)

PHP is faster and more secure. But if you don't plan at making something big, choose Ruby.
