Goggle it, common question and easy to find without a forum post.
If your unsure what assembly is, its a form of low level programming language close at heart to the hardware of the system.

I don't recommend coding your games in assembly, but getting familiar with the basics structures and logic that most all programming languages use.

for nintendos modern consoles(wii, nintendo ds and up):they are mostly written in c/c++
for the old consoles: assembly
