What to do to create a desktop applications

I read the complete java course twice and normally I learnt it and also checked my ability. But still I did not come to know how to create a desktop application using java. I mean to say how would I make an application like dictionary and all for Windows. what is next to learn to get complete ability to create application after completing this course. please suggest me the course and link please..

Learn how to use Swing, it's very easy. Don't use drag and drop, it's very not elegant way to create GUI and you can very fast lose control on the code.

Learn AWT and Swing for application development in java. Swing is far more powerful than awt so i will recommend you to go for swing .. also Use netbeans IDE you will find so easy there to create desktop applications as it provides drag and drop of components..
