For hacking /sarcasm. I have no idea. It's a messy language, even with enforced indentation. It's actually a bit of a write-only language. Now Go on the other hand, provides everything Python can in a very elegant way. I can't wait to start learning it (I've only watched the presentation and some tutorials, but I'm very excited). And Go is compiled! And so neatly extensible. But to answer the question, there are many softwares (plural-plural, that's like a quadral) that use Python for build scripts. Not sure why, but that's _an_ answer: because loads of software lists it as a dependency. Hey, I never promise a good answer, just an honest one.
