I am using Notepad++ but there are lotss of free programs available internet. otherwise notepad is also a better choice because it comes with all version of windows operating system.

netbeans if you also want todo some php later also has a chrome connector so its easy testing

Visual Studio Code due to cross-platform (familiar usage across OS), great time-saving tools like Emmett, code completion (Sublime and Notepad++ have this too), and nicest feature for new users...key mapping so you can customize to the keyboard shortcuts you're used to.

I have a MacBook, so I use TextEditor since it comes with the Mac. However, I’ve recently been using TextWrangler.
