It depends on your country or region since some has more concentrations of programmers than others. Another thing to note is the demand for programmers within your region. Lastly, the last thing is to think about your level of knowledge and skill. If you are confident that there are few (real, on the job) programmers, with a high demand to find some more, and that you have enough knowledge and skill, then go! Get the job immediately!

It kind of depends on you. You’re right when you say there are a lot of programmers out there but most are as some used to say “hackerkittys” and don’t take it seriously and never get a job programming. Not to say it’s wrong if it’s just a hobby to someone but that the job market is large and if someone really applies themselves and learns the skills and a bit of computer science they can make great money because all the companies are basically looking for great programmers right now

Dont worry too much, if you really take it seriously things will come automatically. I had studied 5 semesters in Computer Science and really didn't learn something. But now in my first "real" job I am becoming a Java developer. So again don't worry just take oppurtunitys if they occure. Also keep in mind, what we do here is the future! Greetz Miro ;)'

In this lifetime I'm sure it is, but in the years to come there will be an increase in the amount of programmer, thus leading to unemployement. If there more programming languages being created that could balance programmer jobs (java programmers, cpp programmers and more...) well..that's my view.. Nickita Procrastinator
