i agree with Morpheus that programming might become a necessity. people will probably write the code they need themselves. languages that are higher level (closer to spoken language) might evolve.

The growth of population would be reduced by 90% within the first year 😁

TLDR: ignore it current world population = 7.6 billions ( approx by UNO as of may 2018) current software Developers = 18.2 million ( by Evans data corp) so 0.24% of overall population is actual programmer making a real difference. now if 90% of the world becomes programmer then I guess people will still rely mostly on that top 0.24% for actual quality work , coz unlike other physical tasks codes/coders are omnipresent so most likely the best one will be picked for real job. rest 89.76 % will contribute in programming mixed with other skills or not as core programmers (but this figure is hugely biased because of inaccessibility of technology , lack of awareness and resources to majority population so appreciate it only for the figures not opinion ) but there's a philosopher in me who tells that above figures are cowdung, coz programming might become a basic necessity in life and should not be compared like that hence it's something much more meaningful like a language that needs to be learned that we all understand and that gets all the daily work done for every one but then arises the basic question if programming is basic utility in daily life then who will be called programmers , offcourse 90% of them will not call themselves programmers coz we all know to talk but we all are not litigators or lobbyists or should we be in our own world or is programmer the new human or will the current programmers will ascend to a new level and set a new definition or shall it be called as "The programmers age" it does sounds like a derivative of "information age"

nonzyro But labourers, farmers, doctors and the likes can also be programmers at the same time, so I think we are safe from doom. :>

The human race would die because we need labourers, farmers, doctors, engineers, physicists, and more. They make up the majority of the global work force.

Morpheus Whoa, deep man. It's an interesting point. Like literacy. The upper class learned to read, but few peasants. Now reading and writing is essential. Especially since feature phones and IMs.

Big companies like Google, Microsoft will choose only the best of all and the rest will left with no work I think. What could a programmer do if not write code? ;) Grettings from Poland! ;)

This will never happen. In fact, the programmer's career will disappear, and the computer will have the learning function to solve new problems independently.
