Is it necessary to learn PHP to be proficient in SQL?

I've just started the SQL course and it mentioned PHP within MySQL (among those lines). So is PHP a necessity for learning SQL? Or can I continue learning SQL without knowledge of PHP?

No. You can be proficient in SQL without knowing any PHP. SQL is an independent language, PHP is just commonly used to interface with an SQL database.

No, I have used sql throughout my career to manage databases, pull and process data and to modify a data base, yet I do not know PHP.
