For a beginner at html, php and other programming/scripting languages. Is it absolutely necessary to memorize the syntax.

because there are a lot of syntax and rules to memorize in all the programming languages. i feel overwhelmed trying to memorize all these syntax.
i would be so happy to get a good response to this question.

thanks for your quick response, it really helped. now i have to memorise the basic syntax for each language i'm interested in.

I don't think so. I have heard that Albert Einstein didn't memorize the speed of light.
