Total beginner: how to start?

Which tutorials and programming languages would you recommend to an absolute beginner? I am 43 year old, working as business analyst whithout ever really programming myself (just testing, describing, documentating, preparing training for users...) I am just curious and would probably use programming skills for data analysis and (if I ever advance so far) for apps or websites... Are there tutorials to read before concentrating on one special programming language? thanks, Ellibou
