Real problems are the main thing, I think. Code is to me just the means to an end. It’s a tool for getting things done, not the thing itself. Start by finding the problem, then look for a solution. Naturally, some people just enjoy it :p

- I love puzzles / challenges - Allows me to express my creativity in unique ways - I get to create things that others get to enjoy, from games to apps. - Solves problems that people have - HIGH salary :) - I enjoy making video games - Nothing better than looking at a finished product you made - Millions are in my future and this is bringing me toward it - I can provide for my family easily so they'll be okay when I'm dead

In all fairness, the "bulk" threads that people link to are too crowded and old for anything new. Unfortunately, SoloLearn doesn't sort posts based upon when it was posted, but rather the voting prior to datetime, so most posts (especially new ones) are lost at the very bottom. Just my two cents. Nothing against the rules about creating a new thread instead.

@Alex What type of programmer/career are you seeking with all of this? There are so many directions you can take with it, so there are plenty of options that'll satisfy what you're wanting. I've been a solo programmer for many years and enjoyed it, but admittedly, I formed a lot of bad/lazy habits when working by myself. lol In the more recent years I've been working on a team though, and it has its moments, but really just depends what you're doing. At this job, I prefer working solo and not having others in my way. When I'm working on video games, I love working with a team of like-minded people that are creative.

Yeah, that's a good point. I never thought about the constructive competitive side of that. This was something I had started when I was 13 back in the 90s, so I've just always been use to having to do things alone. I wish the internet was as awesome back then as it is now though. lol If I had a question, I had to pull out a physical book (it's these things that have paper inside of them and words, something cave men use to use back in the day) and try to locate what I'm wanting. A lot of trial and error back then for me. :D Where are you wanting to focus mainly? Maybe we can work on something together.

That's a good coincidence then. Although I currently work at a telecommunications company doing various things from business intelligence to automation, when I'm not at work I'm a game developer and working on getting my own indie company going so I can quit this job. My main specialty at this moment in time is around Unity, but I've dabbled in Unreal as well. If you're interested, we could make a game together. It would be a good learning experience, a chance to work on a team, and in the end it'll also be potential for good money. Let me know if you're interested and I'll shoot my email addy your way so we can discuss things outside of SoloLearn.

lol Duuuude. :D Right now is an amazing time to get into AI and such things. That's something I do for fun in my spare time also. Things are really going to change drastically in the next 10 years. I'm one of those nuts that really want to see (and hopefully help) artificial consciousness to go along with the AI. It's certainly possibly and only a matter of time. Anyways, I'm dangerously close to rambling for hours. :)

That's no problem at all man. I'm in no rush at all, and I'm more than happy to help you out with the learning process of it. I've much room to further learn as well, so it's a win/win. Nothing wrong with creating things that isn't for profit. I do that all of the time also. My main projects is geared toward profit because I want to quit this job and focus full time on what I enjoy doing instead of what I have to do. Know what I mean?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCg50OIoClA ^If you check that out, it's a little game I had been working on. This is an old video from back in August, but I'll upload an updated one sometime soon. This video was me basically testing out the day/night cycle I implemented, as well as the core weather system I was working on at that time. I'm more than happy to teach you everything I know and we can create a new game together. Send me an email to **** and we discuss it further if you want to work on something. If you send email, let me know so I can edit this post to remove my addy.
