weird , u don't learn jQuery without knowing js well, and if you are learning jQuery then why PHP ( it's for doing back end stuffs) , they both are not related. and comes under separate subdomain.

jQuery is just a js library , so don't start with jQuery directly or u ll regret later,

if want to learn PHP, awesome you ll be able to do a lot of stuffs but not related to designing, so figure out ur priorities
