mainly because it's low level language, which letting you faster syntax to compare to assembly.
most of the programs that need performance will use low level language (C/C++). e.x. Adobe products won't be coded in Java or C#, why? because imagine yourself trying to render a video on a program that written in Java, C++ is low level language, which providing you everything that java has and much much more, and much faster, now if you compare between the two renderers you'll see a highly significant amount of astounishing performance with C++.
