How many Programming/Scripting Languages do we need?

There are so many programming/scripting languages that are out there. So many that SoloLearn can't cover them all. ie: CoffeeScript, Haskell. Even more that you haven't heard of.

It is true that we do not need this much and some are almost duplicates. Though we still have the ability to choose which language fits best with our requirements, for this we can have a look at the advantages and disadvantages of each language.

You just need to look at Wikipedias article. Nearly every letter in the Alphabet has it's own language. But all those languages serve for something. Many special Situations need to be covered
