I imagine we have a few decades before we have to worry about any of that. I'm more worried about all of you new generation programmers flooding the market and lowering our salary worth because supply is greater than demand. Just sayin. ;)

@Lucien Technically, even the robots are programmers, so they'll carry on programming even if we reach a point that humans no longer have to, which is likely at some point.

@Sean Definitely. :D We could easily be hit by an asteroid before any of the cool stuff happens anyways. Regardless of what pans out, I'm excited to see how the future will unfold.

@Sean Agreed. Unfortunately (or fortunately?), we're on the cusp of that actually happening. I'd imagine within the next two decades, if I were to guess. Once artificial intelligence reaches the point of human intelligence, its intelligence will increase at exponential rates. This will be amazing (or horrible), depending upon how we decide to utilize the technology. You could create a "super brain" that sits and helps us figure out all of the problems/questions we have, and it wouldn't have a body to take us over or kill us. OR you could create a super race of beings that have God-like intelligence that's beyond our ability to even understand them, and give them super metal bodies while we're at it.

Anyways, I'm getting off track. If we all lose our jobs, that means we reached a really awesome point in history and a lot of cool (and scary) stuff is happening. Even if they take the jobs, it isn't something that would happen all of a sudden, so you have plenty of time to assess your situation and learn other things that you'll need to stay relevant. If robots are taking over, then be a guy that specializes in robots. You'll be the last one to lose your job.
