Hey Laura, How old are you? I would recommend learning at a higher level, developing a website via Wordpress as it's a CMS (Content Management System) that allows you to create websites with limited expertise, but also has the ability for great depth in web development with the aid of various languages. The problem with developing without a CMS solution is that you'll spend a great deal of time developing from the ground up (HTML/CSS) a website that aesthetically falls short of your competitors whom use WordPress as they're using toolsets that allow rapid and sleep design. I'd recommend Wordpress or a similar CMS in conjunction with key languages/mark up languages such as HTML/CSS/PHP/Javascript/Python/SQL (I'd definitely recommend at least the first 3 in this order as they're the key components of Wordpress) If I was you, I would proceed with Sololearn mastering the key languages whilst seeking out resources on how to develop in Wordpress, once you get moving you'll find your way :) Wordpress 1. Learn how to host a wordpress website, Bluhost is a decent starting point server 2. Learn how to install a Theme (Find a theme you like on https://themeforest.net/category/wordpress) - Important Note: Themes are effectively toolsets coded in PHP that make web development much easier, they can be slightly restrictive at times but are relatively easy to expand via Plugins or CSS, Themes are designed to speed up your web design process 3. Learn how to configure themes and design pages 4. Research SEO principles in web development 5. Perform analysis on the performance of your website via gtmetrix.com or google page speed and research how to improve This is just a rough but somewhat reasonable guide on where to go :)

WordPress vs. Adobe Dreamweaver. I like Adobe Dreamweaver, but dislike WordPress, which I've tried to make changes to, like undoing a theme, or making custom changes, but can't figure it out. with Dreamweaver, you can add items through inserting text, tables, etc, and easily get rid of them. You can also fine-tune your site using the coding side. when I took formal classes in Web Development, we used either a text editor program like Notepad, or Dreamweaver, then started learning ASP .NET using Visual studio., also learning vbScript.

you have to know everything about web development 1-front end development: you have to know HTML, CSS, JavaScript, those are basics of any web application. 2-back end development: pick up any programming language and learn about database you should know about web apps for mobile design you should have problem solving skills

In tresponse to @Al.The.Flame! Would you suggest JS for Wordpress? I haven't had to really dabble in Javascript as yet as the majority of the theme manipulation is in HTML/CSS and PHP. Do you have examples of when Javascript is needed? I'm not personally aware of the pros/cons or situations of when Javascript/PHP/Python are to be used in web development, is it just preference?

I'm not saying it's not used by any means :) I just haven't come across the requirement to read through Javascript during the WordPress development process, this may have to do with the themes I'm using, please let me know, I'm keen to learn too! :) Note: I did list Javascript but paced Php as a higher priority due to the frequency of use in WordPress which was my particular recommendation as a rapid starting point

I think if you know PHP, Java or .net then try to make a small project. It helps you to learn new thing in web development and if u go to any company or go to any site and upload your resume then they always ask your project to. so make the project as much as possible. But start with the small and simple project. and you get your topic on google. So start work on project
