What role does creativity plays in the life of a programmer?

Good question! I'd say it's rather central. You might think that the formal, structured nature of the languages might stifle innovation, but I find that isn't the case. Those structures give you basic tools to have at your command, and let you focus more on the problem you're trying to solve. Instead of asking "How will I add these 1000 numbers without going mad?" you can ponder "Now that my for loop is done, what can I user this result for?" An rather clumsy analogy, I admit, but what do you expect this close to bed time?

There are many programmers who can create Facebook but only the one who got the idea became famous. Creativity is very important in a programmer's life.
