I just took the tutorial and everything works.
I recommend creating a new folder.
And create 2 blank documents.
index.html
app.js

Copy the contents of the code that I have provided below.
And save each file.

Open the terminal at the bottom of visual studio code.
and type node app.js to run the server.

Open your web browser and type http://localhost:3000/

Let me know if you get the HTML Message displayed.

This is to make sure there isn't any other issues leading up to the current issue.
