How can I genuinely get better at programming?

Not a code question, but wanted to know from people on here how they got better at coding? Specifically under pressure / exam questions… How does one thoroughly understand what they’re doing?

Practice. Write own programs. Read other people's code and learn from it. Concerning exams: Learn to read your teacher's mind.

An amateur musician will practice enough to play it right, a professional practices so much that they can't play it wrong. Same with programming. You can be competent, or you can be comfortable.
