For myself, I prefer something like Linode or AWS. You're only billed for what you actually use each month, so it's affordable and you have more control over your server for whatever you want to do (doesn't have to just be web hosting). For both, they already have OS images ready so you can tackle the initial setup much quicker than doing it from scratch.
