Is it advantageous to have a little bit knowledge of corel draw, Photoshop etc in website designing .....

Absolutely! Maybe not photoshop (since that's completely overpriced), but you can absolutely use paletton.com , GIMP 2, or Inkscape as graphic design tools. It takes a little while to get accustomed, but they are all incredibly powerful.
