@Shane McNeil......i think age is not matter to do anything because we can do anything we want to if we stick to it long enough.

Shane McNeil When it comes to hiring I feel that employer does not take young seekers seriously. Especially without education. For some reason people assume that the younger the less experienced.

i have been working for telecom for 20+ years. i remember in the 90s the average was under 30. as the new companies getting older their people did so, even the new colleagues are over 30. ok, i know, telecom is a special segment which became a bit old-fashioned against the IT sector what is nowadays in a focus, and i think the future of technology depends on programming, not just in telecom, but finance, production, transport, health care etc. as there is a lack of developers, tech companies started to encourage women, and young people to turn to the tech segment. in my country there are several examples that companies hiring young people directly from school, and paying them so much they abandon their university studies. and now about ourselves old fellows:) there are some private schools here which are in contract with tech companies, so if anyone succesfully completes the 3-4months course, surely got a job as a junior developer. i have some 40+ friends who studied coding on their own, and now they are working as programmers.

If you believe in what you do, the age is not a problem. There is not age to learn.

I know the community here is diverse but I’m more interested in age. For instance, say a 50 year old that has never had a job in tech learns to code. Do they stand a chance at getting hired somewhere?

there is a way for 50++: Lets say, that person works in a hospital and knows all hospital management programs as user. He also has some knowhow in coding, That combination could be his entry into tech. just as example

Age doesn't matter, if you have courage to face challenges. Acquire knowledge properly, if you like to take challenges and has courage to cope with changes. I'm a newbie here at my 51 yrs age. My 14 yrs son has more knowledge than me about IT (Programming and Gaming related) but this never discouraged me to learn Programming.

Toni Isotalo i guess thats not a bad assumption from company's/recruiters.. because the younger you are the less expierence you can possibly have.. still doesn't make it right to not give young people a chance but i can understand they are more willing to take someone educated then not :)

Everything is possible if you really want it and make yourself able to reach your goals by putting hours into it. And by the way, techcompanies are screaming for employees these days.. why not give it a try? They even hire people who got 0 expierence, as long as they show they have the right mindset and are willing to learn
