Well, to be technical, during the Roman Empire days they had a fine mix of religions in one place. So you had your pagans and you had your Christians. To make things easier by not having multiple holidays for the same thing, they merged a lot of holidays together to accommodate both the pagans and the Christians, such as Christmas and Easter. This is why you always get a Christian overtone with those holidays, but also why the images you see is mostly revolved around pagan characters, such as Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny.
Now with Easter, it's a day based upon the resurrection of Jesus; symbolism of rebirth. For the pagans, it's a day based upon fertility and birth; hence the bunnies (known for their fertility) and eggs.
Okay, I guess I told on myself. I know the holidays and history very well, but I wanted to make it a conversation since we're all here. :D
@Jax: That's definitely the modern purpose of it. lolol >_<

😂 Its so people spend more money. Idk who ever thought eggs and bunnies go along well together, but it makes you want to buy all the candy, and the little plastic eggs. 😂 I don’t think half of the kids around the world know what it was actually for.

😂 Yeah, I am not so good with history. Probably my worst subject by far. It doesn’t surprise me that I didn’t know this. All the history I know, is the Roman and Greek gods. That’s about it. 😂

@Jakob Marley
😂 Yeah, I am very bad at geography too. I’m good at writing, math, and spelling. (Technically it’s algebra but it’s all math to me)
@Jan Markus
Christmas is horrible. Have you ever been somewhere on Christmas Eve? We were driving to a relatives for Christmas, and we go by this toy store. Literally the entire parking lot (a huge place) and half of the streets were lined with cars. 😂 And I looked at a sign, it was 5% off everything for Christmas. 😂

@Jax
lol No worries bro. Most of the history I know is stuff I researched and learned after I was already done with school. I had trouble paying attention in school and didn't want to be there. :D
I use to think geography was my better subject, but I realized the other day when I saw a map/globe that I'm actually really bad at it. Half of the stuff on the planet is in a different location than I previously thought. lol

Hmm, I forgot that's a holiday. What do you do on Easter? Educate me. :)

Ah, I see. So what is up with the bunny rabbits and ducks then? Sometimes it gets confusing when there are so many holidays that are religious based, but represented by their pagan counterparts.

I'm also not so good with history, but aren't Roman and Greek gods pretty much the same if you forget the names and just limit them to their descriptions?

Yeah, they pretty much are. 😂

@Jan
Trust me, not all of those religions celebrate Christmas, especially Muslims and Jews. As for the others, it's because of the spirit of it. It's a time that one can potentially be in higher spirits than just the normal days/months. It's a chance to connect better with family you may not see/talk to most of the year. It's a chance to give unto others and attempt to bring happiness to each other, even if just for a short while. Although they certainly make a lot of money and want to continue doing so, originally it wasnt commercialized in such a way and you would make your gifts that you give. Even further, most holidays take place in the winter, which was to help boost spirits and help get people through it since the winter use to kill a lot of people each year.
So why do non-Christians celebrate it? Makes them happy and they can focus on Santa/Reindeer/Snowmen instead of Jesus. More importantly, they want gifts from other people also. lol

@everyone
May God bless you all
And happy Easter

Sorry to burst your bubble, but easter is actually a pagan festival. The origin is approximately 4000 years old.

@Alex
Yeah, I believe so. I think there are some Gods that don't transition between the two, but many do and you're right that their difference is simply their name. Neptune, Jupiter, and Pluto versus Poseidon, Zesu, and Hades.
