The future of software developers will include continuous learning. Keep in mind that technologies change faster and faster. So you cannot afford to let your skill set get behind. That said, be careful to not get pigeon holed by your employer. Also the reality is as you get older, companies see you as outdated and overpaid. Instead of training you, they may hire someone with the newest stuff out of college. This is the future of all STEM disciplines. My advice is to save and invest to hedge for early retirement just in case.
