Along with resources, some things you'll need..

You'll need to have a deep understanding of how systems work under the hood and the "systems" depends on exactly what kind of hacking you're interested in. They can be anything from how the computer hardware itself works, how the operating system works and so on. Also note, there are many types of hackers. It's a very general term that simply means someone who uses things in a way in which they weren't meant to be used.

Some hackers are into hardware, reverse engineering circuitry, etc like I am. Others are into software systems, exploiting software, finding backdoors, etc. So whichever one interests you you'll need to learn as much as you can to get a very intimate understanding of the system in which you'll be attacking so that you know how it's supposed to work and then how you can exploit it to make it do something useful for you that it wasn't designed for.
