IN cpp Why should we use macros insted of global constants or inline functions!?

Question

I have seen the use of macros in far too many codes ....And still dont understand why people use that over global constants or inline functions....Why should we even consider using it?
Further more it doesnt check for the data type of the passed arguments...!
