When you have a problem and you create a code for it you need to cut it into pieces, abstract it and bring it back together. The result of this is way to abstract to explain it to others without knowledge about the process behind it. To explain code to non-programmers you need to "reverse" this process. Also try to bring examples the other person can relate to. That's quite important to be able to explain your stuff in a basic way so that someone who has no clue about programming know what's going on. At least in my opinion.

Hazel Ignacio the problem with filipinos (families/barkada) is that they don't quite understand yet how coding/programming works. Yea I'm from the Philippines too and I know the struggle. It's hard for me to open up to my parents that I want to take computer science in college because they think that tech related courses are irrelevant and couldn't aid in getting a job when in fact it does.

Perhaps join online communities? Good way to learn and contribute You can check Meetup as well - there are lots of groups hosting coding events (hackathons, workshop etc.). And @Khlourde you can check Women Who Code, Manila JavaScript etc. as a start ;)
