I learned the language in a few days. I studied it 12 hours a day and had background with ruby which is semantically similar. I recommend the following book, Effective JavaScript: 68 Specific Ways to Harness the Power of JavaScript. It's short and sweet (220 pages) with really short and targeted chapters.

Well... depends on how fast you learn..some people say it's hard some say it's easy, once you've mastered it's easy and lightweight,if you say JavaScript is hard then what do you call heavyweights like java

Any programming language will be called difficult if you do not master it or have the basic programming concepts, so if you do not know the scope of the language, in reference to JavaScript, it is a very complete language especially oriented to web development, so if you pretend do something that in other languages you would ask to do it easily, in JavaScript maybe you will find it difficult or easier depending on what you intend to develop.
