I don't understand the difference between block and inline element.

bro its easy take it as block div is used for highlight the whole para word wrt the background color and liline element span is used for highlight any couple of words in the same line

@Aashish acharya That is not correct. In the example, author only used the highlight or background colors to show you one of the use. Block is like a tile that will not have any space on left or right to have any other elements around. inline is like element in the same level as the previous or parent element. Inline elements do not start in new line, instead starts in the same line or continues in the same line. Block line elements starts in new line.
