Should there be an age rating for created games on sololearn?

https://www.sololearn.com/discuss/594585/?ref=app This game should have an age rating. According to PEGI the rating should be age 16 as for 12yr the rating is:" PEGI 12 Videogames that show violence of a slightly more graphic nature towards fantasy character and/or non graphic violence towards human-looking characters or recognisable animals" It's the graphical violence (blood) to a recognisable animal thats causing the issue here. Why not shoot at fantasy figures or so? It is an aspect for coders to recon.

@winfrjd Thanks for bringing this up. For the record, mods have actually been monitoring because there were users who have expressed their concerns on this specific code. To be frank, I did not find the contents to be 'perfectly acceptable', but decided not to take any rash action. Getting back to OP - 'How violent is violent' is pretty hard to judge. However, it is stated in our T&C that one has to be over the age of 13 to use the SoloLearn app. (While we may have users who may not follow this particular rule) The real question here is whether or not the introduced content in the code is suitable for audiences aged 13 and above?

@Brains The point isn't just about blood, but the morale behind killing cheetahs. I'm not against your code in particular, but as stated in OP - Violence towards recognisable animals warrants a debate.

I've wondered in this area this myself; for example, there are API's to retrieve anime release data (schedules, news, calendars), but in one of the better systems "suggestive / borderline" entries are not filtered by the "adult: false" flag so I've ignored it. I'll find something else, but the decision seemed a little sad....Much like the DMCA can interfere with security researchers, omitting a teaching code just because the service might offend someone feels like forgetting the purpose of learning to code by interesting play.

I feel that game creating should have no limits, but the kinda games you create should have a limit. Like violence related games should be limited to 18 years and above, etc.

@Liam - A simple alert / notice seemed (to me) like the way to go, assuming "learning to code" approximated the independent area of being trusted to think for yourself -- even if groups behave differently.

yeah. maybe. the community is growing so fast, and mutating... it will take time until we have more standardization coping with all aspects of our interactions.

However, the coding is nice.

@Gustavo @Kirk @Liam. Thanks for your comments. A simple notification at the beginning seems sufficiënt to me too. Thinking for yourself is the basis, but at a suitable age. The ratings can give some guidance in what age of users is suitable. Shooting at a troll, borg or whatever other non-existing fantasy figure would not hinder the fun of coding in any way.

@Hatsy Rei, @Brains, @Tagnev$, Currently there is no "globally harmonized morale" and we are not going to solve differences in culture towards animals, gender, sexual preference, race, religion, tribes etc here. But ratings can serve as a method to prevent the games from setting the morale, instead of complying to it.

would such policies even matter anymore? kids nowadays have grown up to look at violence as a sort of amusement. It'll surely take some time to change that kinda mindset. Conservation of endangered species is a totally different matter of sorts - one in which I too believe that tech should meddle with inappropriate ideas being generated with ease now. So ... yeah. This thread's topic is highly debatable right now! 👈☝💀
