Header files are files containing prototypes to tell the compiler how to call some functionality it doesn't include the definitions of that functionality and how they are implemented. While libs are the library files which defines the functionality. For example, pthread.h is a header file while libpthread.a is the library. Math.h is a header file and libm.lib is a library for math functions.
