I suggest you to use Netbeans IDE. It has already a compiler in it and it is not platform dependent.
It ia also the official IDE of java and supports all kind of applications.
It can be used for building apps for android or can be used for developing softwares for PC's.
It is based on GUI (Graphical User Interface) where you can decide the outlook of your software designed by yourself.
