Is taking peoples codes allowed?

I noticed that a ton of people are stealing my trending codes and either adding their name or just making them public. I honestly dont care if someone wants to use my code as a base for their own project, but some of these just changed my name to their name: https://code.sololearn.com/WK6kw5IJxJ7x/?ref=app https://code.sololearn.com/W5qGUBcU3Rnb/?ref=app https://code.sololearn.com/WvrBSTyJzvx7/?ref=app https://code.sololearn.com/W5SLRM9N6a39/?ref=app https://code.sololearn.com/W7vz03z5PVQy/?ref=app https://code.sololearn.com/WyI4kACvQmWq/?ref=app https://code.sololearn.com/WQ6i01oKn7K8/?ref=app My question is: is that allowed?

So long as they provide the proper credits I think it should be okay. Maybe possibly up to the author too if they are uncomfortable with people copying their codes wholesale.

Gʜ₀ᴢ₇ Sᴇᴄ Im working on something I can add to my codes that will make it difficult to remove my signature from them. It won't be invincible but it will prevent lots of users from trying to show the code is theirs without going through alot of trouble to try and remove my name from it.

Jayden LeCorps be proud! Not everyone's code get copied . Only the truly great one are interesting to be copied. That means your codes are just too great that people want to copy it for themselves.

I think Sololearn is for learning. That's why your codes are open source. I personally think it's bad to completely steal your code, but learning how your code works and implementing it is not offence to me by any means. There's no real licence agreement like MIT, GNU GPL, or something like that. Your codes are probably copyleft! So basically if you worry about not having your codes stolen, just don't put your codes here. Likewise, you don't want share a closed source commercial code here! Remember that copied codes get caught and they get a tonne of hatred comments and downvotes. Anyways, I hate plagiarism and I dislike the copied codes ;) Cheers!

Prometheus 🇸🇬 Many of them just removed my name or added theirs

If you don't want that anyone copy your code then report it here https://www.sololearn.com/discuss/524028/?ref=app

Jayden LeCorps we are always finding these copy cat codes even back in the legacy codes from 2 years ago, codepen codes, and from other sources. Unfortunately the more coders and codes that drop and the harder it is to catch all. The community at large needs to be more vigilant as well as we ourselves have to be more cautious ... There should be a better way to protect our codes but even MIT licenses are not perfect once the code is displayed public

Shaziya yes it is permitted to save but people abuse the idea to save as to publish it as their work attempting to strip away the validity of the original author's credits and that intent is stealing... especially when there is little attempt at creating something on their own after studying...

Daniel true. One should never post code worthy of Copyright on Sololearn.

Jayden LeCorps most of those people are beginners and prolly don't know bout plagiarism and they must've saved your code cos they fancy it... I've seen many of my codes copied but i'll report only if the person seem not to be a beginner

You should obfuscate the code to leave your signature or not share at all. I don't post my real work here. Here is like a scrap book of doodles with code. My real work has spyware/backdoors so when you steal the work, you pay in other ways. I did see someone steal my reseller code to delete clients off a server. Quickly took that shit off even though it depends on a propreitary module made for it to work. Honestly you say you don't care but making this thread tells otherwise. There are tons of lamers stealing and glorifying themselves. It sucks but if you craft the display appropriately, you can monetize in some way. Sorry champ, I feel your frustration. Good thing you would know how to make a better one and all the copy cats are stuck with lying.

Please report the code thieves in the Let's stay Safe Together thread so that the Mods can take action on them.

BroFarOps I agree.. 👍👍👍👍.. But however they can't become a good programmer by doing all those things..

Personally, I copy/save and learn a ton from you guys, but would never repost code publicly on SoloLearn and pass off as my own. There's nothing for me to gain. That, as my toddler would say, is a 'ding-dong' thing to do.

As far as I know, SoloLearn doesn't give us the option of marking a code as favorite, yet it gives the option of saving the code of someone else... I believe that this is the problem in some cases.

This Samsung S10 looks similar. https://code.sololearn.com/WpYZlbdSGSXV/?ref=app Another version same result from this supposed Author: Dimitris Sofikitis ***Sololearn should just share the link keeping an original source rather to easy save code and have your name immediately replaced. Sorry Jayden. Now I know you are the mastermind. Respect.

There is a safe with one million dollars in it. This safe is not in a bank or somewhere with guards. The safe is in a public park. It has no password and its door is always open. Our question is: Is taking people's money and properties allowed with this situation? If you think it is not allowed so what are passwords created for? what is privacy introduced for? They are shared in public!!! I know... I am NOT support unethical acts. You are right in a side. But on the other side blame yourself cuz you shared some your assets in public.(no offence and take it as a friendly conversation.)

No it is not allowed, but there is not an internet law which forbids it. Internet and sololearn in general are free but there are some unwritten rules.

Jayden LeCorps It Shouldnt Be Allowed, and i dont get why people copy other peoples codes, the point of this is to make your own
